"The Thrival Connect Eastside Mental Wellness Hub is revolutionary. Many Indianapolis residents need mental health services, but they can't afford them. Through this promotional and referral partnership, our goal is to change that." - Julius Mansa, Board President of Mumineen CDC and Past Board Chair of Thrival Indy Academy
This month, Mumineen CDC and Thrival Indy Academy, an Indianapolis Public School which is a member of the IPS Innovation Network, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that creates a promotional and referral relationship between the two organizations. Since mental health access is part of Mumineen CDC's core programmatic directives, the MOU allows Mumineen CDC to promote free mental health services to Indianapolis Eastside Residents and make direct referrals. The initiative, called Thrival Connect, is a grant-funded mental health wellness program that focuses on providing grief support, family therapy, individual therapy, and yoga at zero cost to participants.

Why is access to mental health treatment important?
Access to mental health treatment is essential for individuals to receive the care and support they need to manage their mental health conditions. Without access to mental health services, individuals may not be able to receive a diagnosis, treatment, or support for their mental health concerns, which can lead to worsening symptoms, increased disability, and decreased quality of life.
One way access to mental health treatment can benefit a community is by reducing the burden of mental illness. Mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety, are common and can have a significant impact on individuals and their families. Access to mental health treatment can help individuals manage their symptoms, improve their functioning, and reduce the effects of mental illness on their lives.
Another way that access to mental health treatment can benefit a community is by improving overall health and well-being. Mental health and physical health are closely linked, and individuals with mental health conditions are more likely to have other health problems. Access to mental health treatment can help individuals manage their mental health conditions and improve their overall health, leading to decreased healthcare costs and improved quality of life.
Finally, access to mental health treatment can help reduce the stigma associated with mental health conditions. When individuals can receive the care and support they need for their mental health concerns, it sends a message that mental health is essential and that seeking help is a sign of strength. This can lead to more individuals seeking help for their mental health concerns, which can ultimately improve the overall mental health of the community.
